Reuters links Nobitex founders to Iran ruling dynasty

Reuters reported that brothers Ali and Mohammad Kharrazi, using the surname Aghamir, built Nobitex into Iran’s dominant cryptocurrency exchange while coming from a family tied to the country’s ruling establishment. The exchange claims 11 million users and handles an estimated 70% of Iran’s crypto transactions. Blockchain analysis firms and investigators cited by Reuters linked Nobitex to tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in flows involving sanctioned entities, including Iran’s central bank and the IRGC. Nobitex denied government ties and said illicit funds, if any, moved without management approval. The report raises new sanctions, compliance and crypto oversight questions.
