Slovakia will challenge EU Russian gas ban
Slovakia plans to file a lawsuit in the coming days against the European Union's ban on Russian gas imports, Prime Minister Robert Fico said. The case will go to the EU's Court of Justice, and Slovakia will seek a preliminary injunction. Fico criticized the ban's adoption by qualified majority, saying sanctions and foreign policy decisions should be unanimous. The ban, due to be implemented by late 2027, passed despite opposition from Slovakia and Hungary. Hungary has already filed a lawsuit. Both countries have kept Russian gas supplies while the EU seeks to reduce reliance on Russian energy and cut funding for Moscow's war with Ukraine.
