Hoax threats force zoo evacuations across U.S.
Hoax bomb and active-shooter threats have led to evacuations and closures at several U.S. zoos, with no explosives or real dangers found. Police swept the Akron Zoo on Sunday before managers closed it for the day, and visitors were also evacuated from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hours later. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium evacuated Saturday after staff had recently practiced emergency procedures. Similar threats have been reported at zoos in Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida and Arizona. The FBI says swatting is a growing national problem that can cost thousands of dollars, divert public safety resources and lead to federal charges.
