Yachts used to smuggle migrants intercepted inland
National Crime Agency and Border Force officers arrested five men after intercepting a yacht that brought seven Albanian illegal migrants to Chichester marina, nearly five nautical miles inland. Two crew and three people suspected as a shore party were arrested on people smuggling or facilitating immigration suspicions, and the migrants were taken into immigration detention. The incident follows a Cornwall interception of 20 Albanians and comes amid Home Office estimates of 7,000–9,000 possible landing locations and the Operation Kraken public alert campaign, which includes signage in inland villages and warnings about yacht adverts on social media.
